Featuring Mike Street
Mike street's owl Mike Street and friends Mike Street's owl
Mike Street our most prolific carver and best newcomer for a long time, seen here on the right acting the gentleman farmer among the yokel's at a Caravan Club rally. I (Mike Tuck) am on the left with a couple our friends in between. I've known Mike Street for a many years but we've only recently unearthed his latent carving talent. It just goes to show you don't know what you can do until you give it a go. The owl left and right is Mike's latest creation a lovey bit of detail work on a hazel branch.

More of Mike Street's work below
Mike Street

Mike's relief carving of the galleons on the right has been produced using a wooden bread board believed to be made from rubber wood.

Mike copied this design from a brass coal box, it just goes to show that ideas for carvings are all around us.

**********************************************************************************************************************

Mike Has recently created his own website to showcase his carvings and their history. It is well worth a look please use the link below to go there.

Lady Lady Lady

ONE OF OUR MEMBERS has been running something of a masterclass in carving the ladies head shown above. mike street has excelled as usual and this is the first of several versions that should appear on this page. i think you can tellthat mike used to be a hairdresser .

Wood spirit

mike street attended one of our stickmaking courses last year, run by pete wheeler on how to carvie a "woodspirit" on a walking stick.

Mike has mounted his on an old tree root and he tells me it looks better in the flesh than in the photographs

If you look closely you can see mikes years of experiencee have worked for him again. i've never seen such a well groomed "man of the woods".

I thinks this helps to show the spirit of co-operation between the carvers and stickmakers.

any members of the hants & dorset stickmakers stickmakers are welcome to attend the carving group meetings on the first & third tuesday of the month

Moira Powell's work below

Moira Powell Award winning cuckoo
Naughty cat

Moira Powell - a lady of many talents

watching the mother bird feeding her "baby" cuckoo.

This carving won Moira an award in the "Woodcarving" magazine competition in 2010

Rocking _horse

On the left one of moira's smaller rocking horses made from plywood.

the horse and rider are still work in progress at this stage.

moira has made many beautiful full-size rocking horses.

she is a very acomplished woodturner and has also made some fantastic carved-head walking sticks

The Genie's lamp

Moira never seems to be short of ideas.

as demonstrated by "fish & chips" on the right.

The genies lamp on the left was created on the lathe and is completely hollow inside. this was obviously followed by a large amount of carving but don't ask me how she did it.
