Richard Healy visits our Club in January 2011

Richard Healy is a professional carver of stone and wood, who now claims to have retired.

He is well known for his work on memorials, including those for the Clapham rail crash and Hillsborough football stadium disaster.

He showed us photos of his work and related some of his career history, which includes 10 years working on Salisbury Cathedral.

Richard is an expert letter carver and he proceeded to demonstrate how he does this using a vee-chisel to start off and finishing each letter with his trusty Stanley knife.

This delighted our Keith Davis who also prefers his Stanley knife to the set of Flexcut tools he won a few years ago in the Axminster Tools competition.

We were very fortunate to have close-up video facilities available this evening provided by our friends from the Village hall, this made all the fine detail much easier for everyone to see.

This meeting was scheduled to take place just before Christmas but had to be cancelled because of the bad weather, so when the demonstration was over we had our Xmas fayre. The spread of food was fantastic provided by our members and the evening develped into a friendly casual question and answer session with Richard much in demand.

All agreed this was a very successful evening and we will be organising more social events in the future.
